Malaya Movement
The conceptualization of the Malaya Movement started in the fall of 2017. This was sparked by concerns and protests against Rodrigo Duterte’s “war on drugs” and the killing of Kian Delos Santos, a 17 year old senior high school student who was shot by the Police in a dark alley in Caloocan in the drug war. The formation of the Malaya Movement was further given urgency by what the Filipino community in the United States sensed was a looming dictatorship and rising fascism in the Philippines. Its formation took inspiration from the vibrant anti-Marcos dictatorship movement of overseas Filipinos in the 70s and 80s.

The Low Income Housing Institute develops, owns and operates housing for the benefit of low-income, homeless and formerly homeless people in Washington State and administers a range of supportive service programs to assist those we serve in maintaining stable housing and increasing their self-sufficiency.

IDEC
IDEC is dedicated to providing services to Seattle Chinatown International District which enables the community to thrive. Offering First Aid stations at the many community events through out the year are the most identifiable of our services, but IDEC is also engaged in providing training in first aid, emergency preparedness and personal safety. IDEC is currently dedicating its resources to promote public safety in the community.

Our community space operates as a Bakery-Cafe during the day. The Filipino turo-turo menu focuses on desserts, baked goods, and light meryenda snacks alongside our single origin Asian-Pacific coffee program.
At night, we transition into a cocktail bar offering pulutan - Filipino bar food.
